I’ve never fished before, will that be ok?
We create memories and unforgettable stories on every single trip. Looking for some new fish tales? Create them here with us, aboard the Southern Explorer.
Come and meet the dedicated crew of the Southern Explorer, a Premier Victorian fishing and Port Fairy Tuna Charter service, for a family-friendly day out (or night fishing) fishing in one of the world’s most well-loved and richly stocked Port Fairy fishing locations.
All Southern Coast Charters tours have a friendly and knowledgeable guide on board to show you how to catch and release fish, as well as various other fishing techniques. Our trips cater to all levels and are enjoyable and challenging for beginners and experts, our fishing charters and site seeing tours have become widely regarded as the best in Victoria, Australia.
What do I need to bring?
We recommend that everyone brings along hats, sunscreen, coats and drinks. We recommend that you take a sea sickness tablet if you are susceptible to seasickness (or if you aren’t sure if you get sea sick – better to be safe than sorry!) If you are going on a fishing charter you will also need to have a fishing licence – these can be purchased from various venues around Port Fairy and Warrnambool or can be purchased online here http://agriculture.vic.gov.au/fisheries/recreational-fishing/fishing-licence
We also recommend that you bring along an esky or the likes in the car so that you have something to take your catch home in!
What do you supply?
On all fishing charters we supply everything you will need to go fishing – rods, reels, bait and tackle! Half day trips also include, morning or afternoon tea. If you are going on a day long trip we supply morning and afternoon tea as well as lunch. We do suggest that you bring extra water etc for yourself.
Our boat the Southern Explorer is fully equipped with all amenities – toilet, shower, kitchen and bunk quarters! So you are assured of a comfortable trip
Do I get to keep what I catch?
Yes, what fish are caught for the day are divided up and you are given the opportunity to take your catch home. Anything undersized is of course returned to the water! Our friendly crew will fillet your fish for you if you require them to.
